Coffee at Home
Ever wonder how the baristas at your nearest coffee shop make those beautiful, complicated drinks? Want to know how they do it? Let’s learn together. While there is a reason that baristas are trained to do what they do, there are ways to get your drip coffees with a shot of espresso or your hot coffees with neat designs in the foam at home.
Machines Perfect for Home
If you are looking to have a drip coffee effect at home, you can buy any brewer for your favorite brand and flavor of coffee beans or coffee pods. You would be ready to go for the day if this was your main way of taking coffee. If you are wanting something with a little more kick for your day, you may want to try adding espresso to your coffee via espresso machines.
Espresso is great for the hardworking mother, the exhausted night school student or anyone who struggles to maintain their alertness throughout the day. Choose from espresso-only machines and coffee makers that allow you to do both at once – releasing the coffee and espresso into your drinks (there are special pods for this type of machine). You can even step things up a notch by practicing foam designs from Pinterest, YouTube, or other social platforms.
Recipe One: Pumpkin Spice Latte
To get your latte to taste just like a coffee shop, you want to start with the perfect syrup. Why not try the yummy seasonal pumpkin spice? To make pumpkin spice syrup you will need:
- 2 cups simple syrup
- one half cup pumpkin puree
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 half teaspoon of ground clove, and
- ½ teaspoon of ginger
Mix all ingredients together and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Strain it, cool it and store it. Pumpkin Spice latte ingredients are:
- 6 oz of milk
- 5 oz espresso
- 2 tablespoons of whipped cream (optional)
Heat all ingredients and then froth the milk. Brew five ounces of espresso or five or six ounces of strong coffee. Blend the coffee with two tablespoons of the pumpkin spice syrup. Pour in milk. Top with whipped cream (optional). You’re complete!
Recipe Two: Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino
This recipe is more “milkshake” than it is coffee, but nonetheless it is still desirable and a real treat to indulge. This does, however, contain a lot of calories. Keep your health in mind.
Starting your Frappuccino recipe will take:
- 5 cups vanilla ice cream
- 1 cup of ice
- 2 oz espresso (or 3-4 oz of black coffee)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract and whipped cream (optional)
Combine ice with vanilla ice cream and blend until they are completely mixed. Pour in espresso (or coffee) and vanilla extract. Pour in a cup and you are ready to sip until you cannot anymore! Top with your favorite toppings such as whipped cream, caramel drizzle or chocolate drizzle.
While coffee lovers all over the world enjoy their coffee made a certain way at the shop, coffee connoisseurs can enjoy their own made right at home. To never leave your home for coffee is one way to start your day with some extra happiness.
