When I am feeling down about myself, I don’t want to be close to anyone, not even my husband. You will find me sleeping on the far edge of my king-sized bed. It is a slump that we often find ourselves in, but how can we change that? An ancient proverb says as a man thinks in his heart so is he. So we need to change our thinking in order to change our feelings.

Have you ever felt fat or ugly or old? We probably all have felt that way at one time or another. Emotions can tell us negative things, but we have the power to overcome that. We must turn those negative thoughts or “emotions” into right thinking. Change your thinking and you can change your life. Renew your mind with truth. Tell yourself, “I am strong and confident and able and I am not defined by my outer appearance.”  The deeper truth is that we are each unique and there is no one in the world just like us, how wonderful is that!  Start to see the deeper truth of who you are. So what if your body shape isn’t perfect, we all have imperfections, but the core of who you were made to be is beautiful and you have the capacity to love yourself and to love others. Choose to love yourself and see your own unique beauty.

Try going for a walk daily and feel strength building. Become more aware of your surroundings and live in the moment instead of worrying about the past or dreading the future. Practice using all your senses to be present focused. Hear the birds chirping. See the radiant colors of the flowers blooming and feel the gentle breeze. Smell the roses and taste the freshness of life. There is beauty all around but one must take the time to see it and appreciate it. Choose to love yourself and learn to see and enjoy the beauty all around you.

The start of each new day comes with self-care. Practice gratitude and pledge to do the best you can with what you’ve been given. Put on make-up and do your hair if that is what makes you feel good. Get dressed in pretty clothes. Go out of your way to help and encourage others. Tell others how much you appreciate them and help them to be the best they can be. Personally as I fill my husband’s love tank he also fills mine. At night I put on sexy lingerie instead of that old worn out t-shirt. I reach out to touch him with a gentle touch or a word of thanks for all he does. He returns with similar acts of love. Now instead of sleeping on the edge I am immersed in the middle of life and love. Increase your self confidence and you will see intimacy soar.
